A mildly crunchy universal system with degrees of success

Built for the FOGLANDS

Foglands puts you in the driver's seat and heavily suggests you drive "at a fun speed". The Neutral Dark System was built from the ground-up to uplift its core philosophy: think hard, take risks, be greedy, what could go wrong?
As development continues, a game-agnostic version will be developped, transforming core features like the Fog mechanics into a universal alternative.

At its core, a truly universal resolution

Whether you journey or negotiate, whether you swing a sword, cast a spell, craft a potion or resist a curse, it all works the same. Everything you do is boiled down to a skill or a defense, to which an attribute is applied. That's it. That's all Neutral Dark needs to work. Though it is designed for a robust system of character paths, party roles, tactical combat and more, it is a highly modular framework that can accomodate almost any game.

Do everything with a single throw, which yields up to five potential outcomes.

▶ Roll a d12 alongside your contextual die or dice (like your skill's).
▶ Add the relevant Attribute to the highest roll. You get a positive outcome if this beats the Difficulty set by the Host or the opponent’s roll.  You suffer a negative outcome if you fail.
▶ Look at your second highest roll to find how well you did:
1-4: Simple Success
5-8: Greater Success
9-12: Critical Success
